Art Supplies

I often get asked from new art journalers what are the must have supplies.
The list can be very long and quiet expensive this post is a few of
the basics. Its very important not to get overwhelmed or feel like you
can't create beautiful art if you don't have everything out there.

Paper- this can be anything in the handmade journals I use, I
have old magazine pages, manila folders, outdated calenders,
even junk mail!! You don't have to spend money paper is everywhere.

Paints- Cheap acrylic craft paint is perfect for art journaling. You can often
find it for .50 a bottle, grab a few colors and don't forget you can mix it!!

Gesso- You can find this at any craft store or even Walmart.

Glue stick or adhesive- I prefer UHU glue-stick which I purchase on Amazon.

Stencils- You can make your own check out my hot glue stencil video HERE.
You can use produce bags, cut out shapes in cardstock you can use anything.

Pens or Pencils- I like a plain old #2 pencil and my fave pens are the
Uniball Signo 207 Bold and the Uniball Signo white pen.

Collage papers- Almost every single piece I create I use collage elements.
Scrapbook paper, old letter, maps, magazines, newspaper really anything.

Trying something new

Try something new..... Spice it up.

I have been looking around for a unique purse that was "different" and fit my needs. I like to carry a cross body purse it is easier and not as painful on my shoulder. Anyway I looked and never found one that just "spoke to me" so I decided to paint my own. So you wanna see?? I have completed a few purses and who can have a boring wallet with a cool purse? Nope I had to paint a matching wallet too.

Here is my cross body purse which I LOVE!! I will have a few to sell if you are interested either email me at tiff.goff@gmail.com OR check back on the blog and you will see my post.

How freaking cool is this??

So think outside the box and try something new you never know
what may happen.

New video and free cutting file

I did another video and this time I am showing you how you can use your own art work to create stationary and note cards. Leveraging your art, by coping and scanning it to create digital works of art is a fantastic way to reuse those pieces later. Take a look as I walk you through how to achieve these pieces.

Vacation!!

Guys I just wanted to share a few pictures of my wonderful vacation. The ports of call were fantastic this is the second time I went on this cruise this year.Belize, Cozumel and Isle Roatan, Honduras. If you ever get a chance this is a great cruise, Carnival Dream was the name of our ship its the largest ship to sail out of the Mississippi. I am back home now and dreaming for my next cruise. I LOVE IT!!
Look at how clear the water is, COZUMEL Mexico.
I got a message right there on the water. AMAZING!!

Me and the birthday girl!! This was taken on one of our elegant nights.

These were our waiters, people who work on the ships
are the hardest working people I know. They just
don't stop!! These guys were so much fun!!

Are you a journal hoarder?
Now that's a good question I don't think so but I think if your a hoarder
you are probably in denial. SO ...... you be the judge.
How many do you have and why different ones?
I think I have 9 total and 2 completed, so 7 that I work in depending on
my mood and medium. The reason I have different ones is because
I work on multiple pages at a time. If you have seen any of my YouTube videos
you know that patience is not a strength of mine. So instead
of sitting around waiting on the paint to dry I move onto another
page often in a another book until that one is complete.

We were challenged to create a journal page that represents you. For me I had to
use bold colors that I am always pulled towards. I just LOVE bold neon colors, I think it goes hand in hand with my personality. The quote that is written around the circles reads :
"perfect doesn't matter. just be you. dream your dreams, like what you like and stick to your gut feelings. be 100% truly, deeply, uniquely, strangely, passionately you. because you are enough. promise."  - the quiet rabbit

Mail Art

What is Mail Art?

To me it is where the envelope is the artwork. It's more than just slapping a few
pieces of washi tape on the envelope and packing it full
of paper goodness. It's where you treat the envelope like it
were a canvas or art journal page.

 I LOVE making mail
art, I can just imagine the post worker going through their day and up
pops one of my envelopes. I hope that it makes them smile!!
Another reason is I know I love to get pretty envelopes in the mail,
its something about opening your mailbox to a beautiful piece
of art work that has to make you smile!!!

Here are a few of my Mail Art pieces.

Here is a tutorial I did on the Butterfly Mail Art

Transformations

It has been a year since my last post :(  I have had so many things going on in my life and transformations that I just wanted to do a little catch-up. I will try to recap quickly as to not bore you with all the things that have been going on. So here it goes.....

  •  I have lost 50 lbs!!!! Yup since last year I have lost a total of 50 pounds I feel so much better and able to be allot more active.
  • I have been diving deeper into the mixed media world to help with stress.
  • I also have started a youtube channel where I have lots of tutorials on how I do mixed media. Check it out CLICK HERE
  • I have been diagnosed with Alopecia (my hair falls out in clumps) I am fortunate to have curly hair so it isn't as noticeable to most people, but the emotional toll it takes on me has been rough.
  • So with all of those things going on I have been working on Art journaling to get my feelings and emotions out.
  • No I haven't stopped making jewelry or lampworking. I have simply taken a break and will be lampworking again once the weather cools down. It is WAY to hot to sit behind a torch.

So what is an art journal? Art journaling is also known as visual journaling, it can be interrupted in many ways some people don't write at all some people write and cover it up so there aren't any rules. I will show you have a pictures of mine here so you can see what I mean.

So I plan on being more active on here and keeping you guys updated on what I am doing.

This picture was done in an online class I took and it very outside of my comfort zone. I like BOLD Bright colors and this is way more neutral but I learned so much. You can find out more about the class by going to journalgirl.com

A Helpful App!!

Ok so in my day job I work in the technology field, so I wanted pass on something that could help enhance ANYONEs life. It doesn't matter if you are a business owner, a stay at home mom, or a Student. So what in the world is Tiffany babbling about ok so here is the deal its an application for your Smartphone, tablet and laptops. The application is called Evernote its not a new app but just wanted to share how I use it in my jewelry business to help me stay a little more organized. You can download this app by going into your app market and downloading it (its FREE). Their logo is a green square with a elephant inside. Now onto what it does..... Evernote allows you to capture photos, voice recordings and text into a notebook. You can have multiple notebooks for me I have several here are just a few.

  • Bead Recipes- When I create a bead in glass or ceramic what colors I use and in which order makes a huge difference in the end result. Just like with glazes which Glaze you put on first will have a different out come. So I take a picture of the bead(s) (because I WILL forget what it looks like if it goes to a new home) then I type out what colors were used in the order I applied them. Make sense?
  • Jewelry Pieces- I take a picture then I write what size bead I used and anything such as where I purchased it from (you never know you might need to buy more) if there is a certain artist or manufacturer that I need to remember. If you want you could also refrence a price of the beads too.
  • Receipts- You could break this up into Wire, Fiber, Solder, Glass, Glaze etc. You just take a picture of the actual receipt so that when you are pricing things out you don't have papers every where. They are all in one place!!!
So I hope this gives you some idea, I did NOT get paid to write this. I just wanted to share how helpful this has been to me in keeping track of everything and still going green. There are many apps in the market that work similar I just find this one to be the best. Also I forgot to mention that when you set up the app it will ask for a username and password, this allows you to have multiple devices "synced" to the same content. Also if something happened to your device you can always just sign in with your info when you get another.

So if you have an questions please leave me a comment.

Hello again!!

Hello Cyber Universe!!! I have been MIA, for that I am sorry. I have had a lot going on in my little part of the world. I am going to try and dedicate time once a week to blogging because I truly missed you guys. So what's been going on in my world well I want go into everything but having a sick mother and sick mother in law is rough. Good news though my mother in law has completed all chemo and radiation treatments!!!! Wahoo Party time!!

So now on to the beads and jewelry making piece. I have been making lampwork beads!! I took a 2 hour class back in March and fell in love with working with glass. So of course knowing me I jumped right in and bought a little hothead torch, it was a good beginning point but took FOREVER. So I came across someone getting out of lampwork and drove 9 hours to South Carolina, bought the entire studio and drove back. Crazy did someone just call me crazy, well maybe I am a little.  So since I have been spending every ounce of free time working on beads. There are literally beads EVERYWHERE in my house!! Sounds like fun to me, so here are a few photos of my studio and where you can find these beautiful beads.

 Look at all those colors!!
Since I have added about 20 more pounds of glass!!

So you maybe thinking is Tiffany going to put down the clay? The answer
is NO, I am working a few things out to get my kiln going and the ceramic
components will began to flow once more.

So you want to see some of the pieces??
You can find these over on my Facebook Biz page.
